'Primary Colors' follows each individual dancer's assumption of their place in society. audiences are invited to witness them through personal experiences of discovery, stereotyping, exploration, certainty, limits, and - ultimately - acceptance.
this piece was created around the idea of self expression as a performative quality, a conversation between an individual and those perceiving them, and both the variety and similarity that carries from person to person. no two people present exactly the same way, yet we still recognize patterns in what we assume to be "masculine," "feminine," or "androgynous." 'Primary Colors' watches the intersection of these ideas within six individuals, each on a personal search for self definition.
